Greyhounds at Upper Mountain Hounds

In 2006, we had the opportunity to add our first Greyhound, Champion Classic Field of Dreams, SC, (Jake) to the farm, and we now realize that we will always have Greyhounds in our lives. While related, Whippets and Greyhounds are different enough that they each add their own unique dimension and variety. After doing well at several local dog shows, Jake competed at the 2007 Westminster Dog Show where he was named Best of Opposite Sex and when returning in 2008, he was named Best of Breed. He was handled to most of his wins by sighthound specialist Kim Tudor Fredericks.

In late 2008, Helios Violet At Heart, a vivacious and very well behaved Greyhound puppy moved all the way from the state of Washington to join us, and Jake and Violet instantly became inseparable. While they both like the Whippets, the difference in size between the two breeds isn't always conducive for balanced and fair "fun" so the Whippets welcomed Violet with "open paws" since she gave Jake a diversion. Violet went to her first dog show recently at a mere 7 months of age and was named Best of Breed at the Central New Jersey Hound Association specialty by Swedish Greyhound breeder and expert Dr. Goran Bodegard. Jim handled her to this win.

(DC Sporting Fields So Do It MC X Ch. Huzzah Passion Flower)

Jake was our first venture into the wonderful world of Greyhounds, and what a joyous journey this has been. Jake has proven to be a highly competitive show dog, and the highlight of his show career thus far was winning Best of Breed at the 2008 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He has also excelled in lure coursing and has obtained his senior courser title and points towards his field championship. Most importantly, however, Jake is a devoted and loving companion and quiet and dignified house pet who has brought us great pleasure and love since joining the gang at the farms. He is also a "celebrity" at the Jersey Shore, especially in Asbury Park, where he greets customers and their pets alike at our boutique and bakery for dogs and cats, Asbury Bark.

Jake was bred by Cackie Vroom and Frank DePaulo and Pat Ide and Gail Kramer and handled to many of his top wins by Kim Fredericks.Jake is co-owned by Vanessa Weber, Connecticut. A very special thanks to Vanessa for allowing Jake to come and share his life with us.

HELIOS VIOLET AT HEART (Ch. Wildwood Cezanne At Heart X Ch. Helios Iraina At Heart)

"Violet" is the newest addition to the Upper Mountain Hounds canine gang at Wall Street Dairy. She came to us from the state of Washington where she was bred by Dr. Sheryl Bartel, Joni Lovci and Steve Johnson. Sheryl continues to co-own her with us.

Violet is shown above at a mere 7 months of age at her very first dog show where she won Best of Breed at the Central New Jersey Hound Association Specialty under world renowned Greyhound expert and breeder, Dr. Goran Bodegard, Stockholm Sweden. It was such an honor winning under someone with Dr. Bodegard's expertise and experience in this breed. Jim did a masterful job guiding Violet to this win, and he managed to actually keep all four of her feet on the ground at any given time which is easier said than done with an exuberant Greyhound puppy like Violet. Violet recently won Winner's Bitch for a 4 point major at the Central NJ September 2009 All-Hound Specialty. (new picture below)

Violet will be shown very selectively as she grows up and matures. Her main responsibility is keeping her Greyhound buddy "Jake" company and in condition, and she is also one of the very popular "hostesses" at Asbury Bark.
